Mashizan Masjum
Producer/director/writer
www.mashizan.com/
Mashizan is an independent television documentary producer and director currently based in New York City. In the past decade, he has filmed and worked in many parts of Asia, shuttling between the jungles of Indonesia to the gleaming skyscrapers of Tokyo to the mountains of the Philippines. For the sake of his art, he has slept on bare earth under the stars (Sumatra); climbed thousands of steps to be with mountainous peoples (Ifugao, Philippines); struggled to capture truth under the watchful eye of authoritarian regimes (Burma). But each time, all anguish would disappear when the cameras began to roll, when the momentous shot was recorded, when the sound bite spoke volumes. His passion for factual story-telling has brought him to far-flung places, to environments so different from where he was born and raised, Singapore.
